Barack Obama responds to McCain’s “The View” appearance

September 12, 2008

“In running the sleaziest campaign since South Carolina in 2000 and standing by completely debunked lies on national television, it’s clear that John McCain would rather lose his integrity than lose an election,” Hari Sevugan, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, said in a statement.

That’s the way I see it, too.  Enough!   Democrat Dave

The interview the ladies of “The View” conducted this morning is extremely insightful and explains why (in John McCain’s own words) the McCain-Palin ticket is wrong for America :

This piece explains why we need Barack Obama and Joe Biden to prevail in November 2008.

GOP not focusing on real issues

September 12, 2008

The Republican party does not deserve our votes this Fall.   This includes John McCain and Sarah Palin as well as Republican House and Senate candidates.

There are real issues affecting real people that need to be addressed that we don’t hear McCain, Palin or the GOP talking about.

The last 8 years of GOP rule has demostrated the GOP can’t deliver what the American people need in the next 8 years.  Here’s where we currently stand as a result of their “hard work:”

  • Unemployment is at a 5-year high (6.1%) as of September 2008
  • Gas prices have risen from an average of $1.45 when Bush took office in 2001 to present levels now slightly less than $4 a gallon resulting in a horrible impact on our economy and the middle-class, e.g., airline bankruptcies, food price escalation, cost of living impact, etc.
  • Our standing in the world is at an all-time low due to Republican and neo-conservative unilaterism and a lack of diplomacy
  • Our military has been stretched to the limit and then some–the National Guard has become George Bush’s not-so-secret  draft
  • The U.S. Constitution has been subverted repeatedly, e.g., warrantless wiretapping, executive signing orders have reinterpreted laws passed by Congress
  • New definitions have been created (“enemy combatants”) to subvert the Geneva Convention and allow torture
  • Government oversight has been grossly negligent, e.g., the sub-prime mortgage mess, the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, FAA oversight of the airlines, Department of the Interior drug and sex scandal just revealed this week, the scandals at the Department of Justice under Alberto Gonzales
  • “Drill, drill, drill” is the GOP energy policy
  • Education has never been worse–the Republicans really don’t support the public education system–they prefer private schools for their children and despise the teacher’s unions
  • Affordable health care and insurance–how have the Republicans helped close the gap?  [They haven’t!]

When George Bush went to the Saudi’s and asked for them to expand oil supply to help us out, they thumbed their noses at us.  And, what was Bush’s response?   Silence.  Just this week, the OPEC announced that it is going to reduce supply again because the price per barrel is dropping more than they want.  This can only mean that gasoline prices will rise from their present levels.

People in the heartland of American are particularly affected by these issues.   These people may drive 100 miles back and forth to work each day in a large pickup truck that they use to work their family farms.  People in rural areas are getting hammered by the cost of fuel and food, more so than people living in urban and suburban areas.

I could go on and on.

What is the GOP focusing on?  Sarah Palin, her conservative religious stance and the votes she attracts because of that stance, how mean the liberal media has been to Sarah Palin, lipstick, etc.  I don’t hear them focusing on real issues, do you?

The Obama-Biden ticket will win in November and then take on the hard work of correcting the misdeeds of the last 8 years.  Even the people who don’t vote for Barack Obama will benefit from his leadership.
